Feedback - 2008/09 Partner Comments

This page will hold useful quotes about issues from Partners in 2008/09 from either phone calls or from our online partner community - these quotes focus on the issues highlighed by the partners, there have also been some great, positive, feedback about teams and faculties within the University which have not been captured on this page.

Starting a new Fd

“In terms of the management of this process, I don’t feel that this is managed as well as it could be. There doesn’t appear to be a formal ‘project’ set up to tackle the activity. The notion of the two year FD is discussed at meetings, but these meetings never result in clear action points with assigned responsibilities or deadlines being established, nor are any formal minutes issued at such meetings. I do understand that staff are extremely busy; however, these issues are basic fundamental outputs from a formal meeting. Please don’t think this is a whinge, it isn’t, I just think we can improve the effectiveness of these meetings and in turn the quality of the provision.”

"Some new developments can feel rushed so we don't go ahead with them"

"The University initially didn’t warm or found it difficult (my own thoughts) to understand, that there was a market for “non traditional academic route of progression”.

"There was confusion as to how we got the course validated in the first place."

"It appears that each faculty has its own processes to dealing with new Fd's and it can even depend on individuals that defines your experience"

Documentation

"It may not be easy for students to understand at first how they can be both a College and Uni student - I think the handbooks are very long at the moment with both College and Uni policies and regulations. I'd like to see them much more streamlined and user friendly."

"Each Faculty has a different template - and sometimes different areas of the Faculty use different templates/versions. I guess what I'm getting at is that University Faculties don't always align in terms of curriculum areas to College Faculties.... so we might have two or even three different styles of document for"

Student Enrolment

"The only problem is with enrolment at Staffs Uni for the learners. They have to enrol at Staffs Uni not our college to start the course. Unless this happens they cannot begin the course at the College. Some do not have access to the Internet and so this has proved to be a big problem. This holds up their student loans, College ID cards and all the things that cause the learners problems at the start of the course. In some cases it can be a delay of up to 3 weeks or more before they can begin the course."
